Maggie DeFrees is an interdisciplinary artist whose art is influenced by movement. Maggie graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Production in May of 2023. While at Shenandoah, DeFrees had the opportunity to perform works by Roderick George, Danielle Sten-Guillermo, Kim Fields, Daniel Padierna, Tiffanie Carson, Ting-Yu Chen, and others. Her highlights include being cast as a soloist in a re-staging of Ballet Hispanico's Batucada Fantastica. Her choreographic works include Kinetic Canvas, MADE Dance Collective, ARTEINMOVIMENTO Dance Company, and the Pre-Professional program at the Dance Academy of Louden. Upon graduating, she received the Dean's Undergraduate Academic Award, the Terpsichore Dance Award, and the Ting-Yu Chen Scholarship for Excellence in Dance for her choreographic work, dance performance, and leadership in the Conservatory. DeFrees is the director of MADE Dance Collective, a company that she founded and choreographs for, with dancers in the DMV. She is grateful to have most recently been invited back to Shenandoah to work with the first-year dancers to set a piece titled RE: Versed, presented in the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre. She thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration and aims to further cultivate her passion for dance performance and enhanced production value.
